Jonas Wood (b. 1977, Boston, MA) received his MFA from the University of Washington in 2002. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
Wood is noted for his synthesis of art historical references from Classical Antiquity and Modernism, together with contemporary subjects from popular culture and his own life. He accesses a visual language that is characteristically his own while establishing himself in the broader scope of contemporary figurative art. He moves between playful abstraction and a disciplined technical approach, participating in an interplay of tradition and experimentation that sits at the root of the lineage he follows in.
